Prospect for Success
pROSPECT FOR SUCCESS
Your first year of college is an exciting time, with new friendships, new experiences, and new challenges ahead. UNC Charlotte is committed to giving you a great start on this journey by offering specific courses we call “Prospect for Success” (or PFS). These courses focus on developing the skills and dispositions that will make your college career rewarding and successful, and help you transition from high school to college.
PFS courses focus on three core learning outcomes:
* Commitment to Success–setting goals and developing the skills needed to meet them
* Inquiry–being curious and learning to think like a college student
* Engagement Across Perspectives–learning about differences between yourself and others
Why Prospect for Success? Watch this video to find out!
Fun fact: Students who participate in Prospect for Success courses in their first semester earn higher first-year GPAs and are more likely to return to UNC Charlotte for their second year!
The specific PFS course you register for depends on your college at entry. For example, if you enter with a major in the College of Engineering, you’ll enroll in ENGR 1300: Exploring Engineering & Technology With Success. If you’re undeclared/undecided, you’ll take UCOL1200: First-Year Seminar, and so forth.
You’ll receive information about which course to register for, and what it will specifically offer you, during your pre-New Student Orientation Canvas modules.
